3 Reasons to Make Networking Part of Your Routine

March 12, 2013 by Susan Hamilton Leave a Comment

Wow, what a week already! I’m headed out the door in just a few minutes to go to a networking dinner in the Dallas – Ft. Worth area, and realizing how truly grateful I am to have the opportunity to meet with other people and learn about their businesses. It keeps me current, and gives me so much encouragement – I can’t begin to express it! But I’ll try.

Yes, I know you’re busy. It’s all you can do to carve out a few minutes to read or listen to this post. And social media … well, you do it whenever you can, but it’s tricky. We do have REAL work to do! Believe me when I tell you, I SO understand you! I feel exactly the same way.

Here’s why I make the effort, and why I think you should, too:  [Read more…] about 3 Reasons to Make Networking Part of Your Routine

Managing Your Time Makes You More Effective

August 20, 2012 by Susan Hamilton Leave a Comment

Do you hate knowing you have so much more to do for your business than previous generations of business owners? They never had to write for themselves or spend time online talking with other people, why should you have to?

Networking has always set businesses apart from each other. In 2012, we’re just adding another ‘tier,’ because we know that when we use social media to interact with people we meet in person, we’re chatting with an interested person who we are genuinely interested in.

Not you, you’re an Inside Line subscriber. You know what attitude you have to embrace to do this thing right.

Online marketing is a different animal. If you’re not getting the feedback and interaction you want from all the time you’re spending chatting it up, don’t be discouraged! The online crowd can be a tough audience, and the most important thing you can do to get their attention is work within your own network to develop interactions. Don’t Waste My Time, I’m Working

A couple of years ago, I thought everyone was actively using social media, but me. I thought I was behind, but really didn’t care too much. I thought I worked with businesses peculiarly difficult in this area, and that I could influence them a little at best, and would continue to try, but mastering this monster would probably take a new hire in our organization. I didn’t try very hard because I knew I struggled with it, too.

We knew it could help, knew it helped some businesses, but were still unsure how much. I think I looked at social media as more of a fad that would evolve or fade away. I see that many of you think that right now. [Read more…] about Don’t Waste My Time, I’m Working

How Much is Too Much Social Activity?

May 2, 2012 by Susan Hamilton Leave a Comment

Search engine results, your site number one.

Every business is unique and different, and so are their social styles. Not everything you see others do will work for your company.

Social activity can’t be ignored, but most small businesses that didn’t grow up in a culture of social online behavior will agree that there isn’t a whole lot of time for chit-chatting in the unknown with whoevers. There’s a business to run.

The superficial benefits to social engagement are obvious:

  • Brand recognition
  • Industry thought leadership
  • Staying current with trends and information

But those reasons aren’t enough to keep you interesting or interested in social activity – they’re kind of flat, aren’t they?
