Noticed that ‘Pin’ option on stuff you read online these days?
When you think of social media, you naturally think of updates. Well, Pinterest takes updating to a whole new level, and as far as I’m concerned is one of the smartest ways to share excellent and unusual products. I can’t imagine what went into mapping out such a big project, but I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall!
We’ve shared a lot of perspectives on the Inside Line to Getting More Business that relate to marketing an exceptional ‘experience’ to an ideal customer. Pinterest is an example of how social media can actually feature your wares in a photo you ‘pin’ on a pinboard and then showcase on your own board. It can end up all over the website and really gain a lot of traction. People can share, re-pin to their own boards, and comment on anything you add.
I really love the categorization and visual appeal of this site.
You can pin images from just about anywhere now that the ‘Pin’ option is as easy to find as the ‘Tweet This’ button on most online publications, including blogs. Other pinners can easily view and comment on your pinboard, making this thing incredibly popular incredibly fast. Do not ignore or dismiss this area as simply ‘cute.’ These items are automatically pinned to Facebook, too, ramping-up visibility to insane numbers.
I can see where almost every company can benefit from this new social arena:
- Auto sales
- Floral shops
- Hair salons
- Nursing homes
- Hobby enthusiasts
- Remodelers
- Bakers
- Fashion designers
Go look, and see what I mean. It’s totally addictive, so limit yourself. You’ll need to request an invite and that may take a day or so.
Pinterest.com is no slouch when it comes to traffic generation, and if you set yourself up correctly, you can see the results of your elbow grease rather quickly.
It all revolves around images, and we’re going to talk about taking and using quality images in our up-and-coming launch of Core Mechanics Coaching.
We’ve put together an incredible amount of information that isn’t limited to current sales avenues. Online and mobile marketing are moving at the speed of light, and you’ve told us the ride needs to slow down long enough for basic skills training!
When we’re through with you, you’ll be able to take new skills and grow as elastic marketing channels continue to evolve.

I think the most interesting way Pinterest allows you to ‘showcase’ is through thoughtful use of the pinboards. You can pin from anywhere, pin anything, and pick any title for a pinboard you like. The viral aspect online is really amazing, though I’ve learned to be cautious of ‘shiny buttons’ that are quick to be trendy and then fizzle out.
The way I see it, pinboards used well for business purposes might include:
Product categories
Industry uses (results images)
Pictures of clients using the products
Testimonials (photographed or screen-grabbed and uploaded)
And I think it’s important to include additional pinboards that relate what others are pinning to your company’s interest, too. Re-pinning makes that easy to do.
Pinned items are so easy to share, and so well-received, that I think we shouldn’t dismiss it just yet. Letting your customers know about your pins gives them an easy way to endorse your brand, and I think a very effective way to put a friendly, outgoing face on a business.
Thank you for your comments!

Similar to when I first saw Twitter and FB, my first impression of Pinterest is, “I don’t know how I can use this for our business”? That said, I know people who are wild about Pinterest and find it addicting.
