For most of my adult married life, I’ve been asked, “How do you do it? Doesn’t it drive you crazy to be with your husband ALL-THE-TIME?” In the past, my husband and I worked separate businesses from separate offices in our home. For a short while, we even worked separate businesses from the same small home office. But for the past 2-1/2 years, we’ve worked side-by-side cooperatively in one business from a 38’ motorhome. Throughout our entrepreneurial journey my answer to the “how do you do it” question has remained the same. “We happen to like each other!”

We’ve traveled about 10,000 miles in 2015, exhibited at nine events, and met with 31 retail hobby store owners. It’s been an interesting year, to say the very least. We’ve had the opportunity to interact with manufacturers, retailers, and the consumers who purchase their products. Working all sides of this industry has given us a rather unique perspective into what’s working, what’s not, and why.
Here’s what we learned about event marketing in 2015. No matter what industry you’re in, you’re sure to find a few useful tidbits.

We’ve been on the road now for nearly 1-1/2 years and our business and lives continue to evolve. We’ve learned to squeeze a little play into just about every workday. In central Florida, that means the workday is usually broken up by a mid-afternoon swim with friends. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t hard to get back to work afterwards! But we remind ourselves that both the fun and the work are activities worthy of our attention, and it doesn’t hurt that the work is actually something we really enjoy doing.

This past year, we’ve exhibited at trade shows and modeling events across the USA on behalf of our customers. In fact, if there’s a plastic scale modeling event or hobby related trade show anywhere near our driving route, you can bet we’ll make every effort to be there. It’s good business for our customers and something we truly enjoy doing.
We’ve learned a few things along the way that I want to share with you today.

Wow, it’s been six months since my last post! No excuses … this is not the way to run a blog, and not the way to put the best face forward on our business. Long story, short … this is the first of many, many blog posts that will again deliver to you the Inside Line on Getting More Business. (Don’t worry … we haven’t gone from semi-annual posting to daily. It’ll be more like weekly or semi-monthly.)
