So many choices! In an attempt to do everything, we end up doing nothing at all. Too many times we bargain our time, talents and money for less than we ought because it’s easier to do. Thinking through your strategies is a serious investment of time, it might cost some money, and it’s entirely possible that you may not have the talent to do what needs to get done in the best interest of your company.
Growing business isn’t for the weak at heart. It’s hard work, and keeping the costs of marketing within a moderate price range requires you do even more. You’ll hear many people tell you, “You can do it all yourself – here’s what you do.”
Friends, unless you have nothing else to do, that’s bad advice. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, and when you do, you won’t do anything. It’s human nature.
It’s never good to be a jack-of-all-trades, but master of none. Your marketing money is best spent when you manage to do what you need to do to make money, while the professional tasks are outsourced to a company you trust to propel your brand recognition and reputation.
The thing is, in business and in life, we need to learn that stretching is good. If a decision is between life staying easy and stretching for that next step, you need to make the step – it’s the only way you can grow.
What is YOUR next step?
- Is it time to talk with someone to get a handle on costs associated with a good campaign?
- Is it time to start using your WordPress.org blog strategically?
- Do you need to take a class to learn some basics?
- Do you need to carve out time to develop new routines, like blogging, social media, and email strategy?
- Do you need to pay someone to help you?
Listen, if you wonder where you should be asking for help, remember this. The point where you struggle, the point where you just don’t seem to be able to complete your ideas or maintain consistency – THAT’s where you need to give it to someone else.
Here are some truths to prove my point:
- Online marketing will continue to be the way people decide to buy.
- Mobile websites aren’t going away.
- Social media will continue to be a major influence on your website traffic.
- Email is still the most effective way to stay in front of your customer and prospect base.
If you’re struggling with these areas, you’re hurting for money. I don’t even have to ask you. Not getting involved NOW is the worst thing you could do. The longer you wait, the harder it will be. But if you decide to get up and get after it – to learn and DO what you need to – not only will you be able to manage your company message very effectively, but you’ll be able to share what you’ve learned with someone internally who can either help or take over that task for you.

I invite you to bring along the person you’d trust managing your online messages, if that won’t be you. Don’t just send them, because you need to understand this stuff, too.
