Do You Know What You’re Doing?

September 19, 2012 by Susan Hamilton Leave a Comment

Every single day, in every company across America, people are walking into their places of work with only a handful of things on their immediate to-do list, and a whole bunch on their periphery. Those peripheral, floating items are often much more important to the day-to-day operations of the company than you may realize.

We put off the big stuff until there’s time for it, right? [Read more…] about Do You Know What You’re Doing?

Become Your Customer’s Habit, and Then Their CRAVING!

September 10, 2012 by Susan Hamilton Leave a Comment

This was inspired by a great presentation from Christa Trantham, a very aware young lady with an incredible marketing perspective!

Habits are funny, little people with big feet …

No, that’s a hobbit …

But habits are pretty weird, too.

We don’t always know why people do what they do, but figuring it out is what marketing is, so it’s important to understand how our customer behaves.   [Read more…] about Become Your Customer’s Habit, and Then Their CRAVING!

How to Ignite The Passion For Your Business

July 23, 2012 by Susan Hamilton Leave a Comment

It’s stifling hot outside, and it’s hard to think about intentionally ‘igniting’ anything! Most of us just want to lay down right now, and wait till the air cools down a little.

Everybody goes through seasons of pure mental exhaustion. We’ve just worked ourselves into the ground trying to make things work the way we want, the way we know in our hearts it could work, with some magic legislation or perfect customer that would make it all much easier. Even when we follow good advice sometimes, it may seem like nothing is working. Maybe there’s some kind of spiritual reason for this mess, right? Maybe this company is just not meant to be …

When those thoughts start to weigh you down, it’s time to fight for what you’ve been working so hard for. It’s like racing a long race. Good runners know they have to balance their energy so they can make it for the last leg of the race and win. That time is now. And not everyone will make it. Winners are the ones who are ALWAYS learning to improve their technique. [Read more…] about How to Ignite The Passion For Your Business

Is Indecision Making You Settle For Less?

So many choices! In an attempt to do everything, we end up doing nothing at all. Too many times we bargain our time, talents and money for less than we ought because it’s easier to do. Thinking through your strategies is a serious investment of time, it might cost some money, and it’s entirely possible that you may not have the talent to do what needs to get done in the best interest of your company.

Growing business isn’t for the weak at heart. It’s hard work, and keeping the costs of marketing within a moderate price range requires you do even more. You’ll hear many people tell you, “You can do it all yourself – here’s what you do.”

Friends, unless you have nothing else to do, that’s bad advice. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, and when you do, you won’t do anything. It’s human nature.

It’s never good to be a jack-of-all-trades, but master of none. Your marketing money is best spent when you manage to do what you need to do to make money, while the professional tasks are outsourced to a company you trust to propel your brand recognition and reputation.

The thing is, in business and in life, we need to learn that stretching is good. If a decision is between life staying easy and stretching for that next step, you need to make the step – it’s the only way you can grow. [Read more…] about Is Indecision Making You Settle For Less?

What Would Happen if You Had an Empowered, Independent Staff?

Business owners like us can tend to be control freaks, am I right? I mean, we want to know we can trust the end result, and someone else might screw it all up with a simple mistake.

That kind of thinking will NOT grow a successful business! Leadership is all about making sure we teach others to do what needs to be done. Business owners by their very nature are called to be leaders – in their places of work, involvement in the community, and even in their families.

Leadership sometimes gets a bad rap. Depending on your background, it’s easy to mistake leadership for overbearing, brow-beating and finger-pointing, and scolding, but that’s not it at ALL.

Real leadership empowers your team to do what you do, and think independently to improve your original ideas. When you’re truly leading, you’re leading by example. What does that even mean in business?
